The ATJ Seminar for 2000 was held all day Thursday, March 9, in San Diego, CA. The Seminar, held as usual in conjunction with the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) annual conference, will feature concurrent sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with presentations on Japanese literature, Japanese linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, and Japanese Pedagogy. From 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., a special blue-ribbon panel of former presidents of the ATJ will review the organization's history and challenges for the future.
All sessions were held at the Town and Country Resort Hotel in San Diego, the site of the 2000 Annual AAS Meeting, which ran from March 9-12. It is not necessary to register for the ATJ Seminar, nor is it necessary to attend the AAS conference in order to attend the ATJ Seminar. However, ATJ members are strongly encouraged to attend the AAS meeting, which does require registration. The conference features a number of panel sessions of interest to language teachers, including an ATJ-sponsored roundtable on heritage language education. Information about the AAS Conference, as well as advance online registration, are available at the AAS web site, at http://www.aasianst.org.
A complete program for the ATJ Seminar has been published in the February issue of the Newsletter, and is also be available online here.
