Abstract
When you apply for an academic or teaching job, the inclusion of a teaching portfolio in your application packet may make a difference. A teaching portfolio is a collection of documents that describe your teaching philosophy and abilities. It informs recruiters of many important aspects of your knowledge, skills and qualities as a language teacher, In this panel session, I will discuss the characteristics of an effective teaching portfolio, when you should start creating a teaching portfolio, what can be included, how documents must be organized, how you can submit your teaching portfolio along with your application documents, and so forth. Many teaching portfolios include a DVD or a video that depicts job candidates' teaching and interactions with students. Such a material is a good way to inform others of your teaching approach, your abilities to interact with students in classroom situations, and your skills to manage the classroom. This panel session also will discuss what elements should be included in your DVD or video, how your film clips should be organized, what materials should be added to it, as well as how to shoot and edit video segments. Those who will attend this session will learn what an effective teaching portfolio is like and how it should be developed.
